New member here so forgive me if this has been answered before but was wondering why the stories weren’t printed in chronological order in Cosmos. It isn’t such a problem with the original Hawke stories as there isn’t a lot of story-to story continuity there but in later ones (originally the McLane material) many of the stories are linked or at least referenced in later stories. Syd’s work – and art in particular – obviously evolved as the stories progressed so were you just providing a wider range of story/art styles to the readers or was there perhaps a problem with the source material? This isn’t a complaint btw – I’m just being curious – I’m extremely happy to get the strips in whatever format is available.
Cheers!
Bill
A perfect index for Jeff Hawke fans.
When the series started Sydney did not want to start in chronological order as he considered the first stories as not really representing the established Hawke style so early stories were paired up with later ones. As you say all the early stories were relatively free-standing so this was easy enough to do . After PRODIGAL SON the continuity becomes more important.
