Here is an interesting cutting from the Daily Express from 1956  in the early days of the JH strip, where a keen reader is wondering where the inspiration for the stories came from. Sydney included a little pen and ink self-portrait in the column and says he added a tartan tie to fly the flag for his Scottish ancestry.
